Navy veteran, Special Education teacher, travel enthusiast, writer. These are just a few of the monikers that apply to me.
I grew up in rural Missouri, just a millimeter on a standard map from Iowa. Many in this great land of ours have trouble pointing to either state on a map but being from there, I can tell you that they are different and unique. Both make wonderful places to grow up, in case you are in the market.
I went off to college at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. I spent “four years by the bay” followed by five years on Active Duty as a Surface Warfare Officer based in Norfolk, Virginia. During that time, I traveled to Spain, Italy, Albania, Portugal, Turkey, and Bahrain. The travel bug bit me– hard.
I also married the love of my life and started our adventures together. We have traveled to Paris, lived in Hawaii, and now call Virginia our home. We welcomed two sons, Sebastian in 2016 and Lincoln in 2017, and a daughter, Hannah, in 2019.
I have been writing all of my life. From my first “chapter books” in elementary school to term papers as an English major, writing has always been a source of inspiration for me. It provides an opportunity to explore not only my own thoughts but learn things about my community and the world as well.
